The ASEAN Transport Ministers (ATM) is a sectoral body under the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) that was first established in 1996. The ATM, as the highest ASEAN transport body, sets policy directions in the transport sector and discusses issues of common interest.
The ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) is the executive body that supervises, coordinates and reviews programmes and implements the directions set by the ASEAN Transport Ministers.
STOM is held twice a year, once during mid-year and the second in November, which is held back-to-back with ATM. ATM and STOM also have Dialogue Partner meetings with China, European Union (EU), Japan and Republic of Korea (ROK).
The current strategic plan is the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan (KLTSP) 2016-2025, outlining programmes, activities and milestones for the five Key Strategic Areas of air transport, land transport, maritime transport, sustainable transport and transport facilitation.
